From Killay to València, and back again

I was born in Killay, went to school in Swansea, and learned Spanish in a classroom about ten minutes from where I now teach. The year in Valencia came later, and it is the part that turned a school subject into a language I actually live in.

That combination is the reason I teach the way I do. I know how Spanish is taught here, and I know what it takes to get past it.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Do you teach online or in person?

Both. In-person lessons happen at my home in Killay or at yours if you are within about four miles. Online lessons run over Zoom with a shared document you keep afterwards, which most A-Level students end up preferring because the notes build up week by week.

Which exam boards do you cover?

WJEC and Eduqas, which is what most Swansea schools follow, plus AQA and Edexcel. Tell me the board when you first get in touch and I will bring the right past papers to the free first lesson.

Are you a native Spanish speaker?

No. I am a fluent speaker who learned Spanish through school and a degree at Cardiff, including a year living in Valencia. For exam students that is often an advantage, because I have been through the same specifications recently and I remember which parts are genuinely confusing.

How much do lessons cost?

Twenty-two pounds an hour for GCSE and adult beginners, twenty-six for A-Level and university level, and fifteen per student for pairs. The first lesson is free.

How quickly do you reply?

Usually the same day, and always within one working day.
